Meeting cyber insurance requirements without disrupting the business

A renewal was at risk until remote access, backup and power resilience were brought up to the insurer's standard.

The client's cyber insurance provider was about to decline renewal unless the business could demonstrate secure remote access, a tested backup and recovery process, and safeguards against data loss from power interruptions. Remote desktop access was exposed directly to the internet, backups were not regularly tested, and a short power cut earlier in the year had already corrupted a day's work.

PurpleBox closed the direct RDP exposure and replaced it with a properly authenticated, monitored remote access route, then built a backup and recovery routine covering every critical system with regular restore testing. To protect against power interruptions we installed UPS units on core infrastructure and supplied power banks for essential portable equipment, and added an on-site physical safe to store backup media and recovery credentials securely. Every control was mapped directly against the insurer's checklist before renewal.

The business renewed its cyber insurance policy on improved terms, with the insurer citing the completed security controls directly. Beyond the renewal, the business now has a tested recovery process, protected power continuity, and secure physical storage for its most sensitive backup materials.
